Building Half Wall Columns
Make sure it is the pressure treated bottom plate that makes contact with the concrete.
Building half wall columns. Once the wall was cleared i built a simple pilaster which by definition is a column that is attached to a wall so essentially a half column for the half wall. Once the frame is in place check to see if it s level. First i attached two common boards to the wall with liquid nails and nails. Install the back finished columns and put a couple of nails in to hold the column into place along the wall.
Ever since we have been showing you the wrap up of the living room and the built in s plans part one and part two we have had a lot of questions on how we built our columns so we broke the process down for your building pleasure. Measure the completed column to cut the reversible flute on bottom and the mdf base on the top. Measure five equidistant lines down the length of the column to place the colonial panel molding and mark off on column with a pencil. The half walls keep the space open and allow light to pass easily between the two sections of the room but the columns provide the height that a full wall would to formally define the individual.
