Cement Door Sill Replacement
Remove the screws holding the metal threshold in place.
Cement door sill replacement. The sill is beveled on one side to drain water away from the house. Pull the rubber gasket out of the grooves on the metal threshold. Mark each end of the aluminum. You may also want to replace an interior threshold because the old one is ugly or because new flooring on one side of the doorway calls for it.
To remove and replace a door sill. Using a steel putty knife smooth the caulking to a uniform appearance that blends with the adjacent surface of the threshold. We have a metal threshold over a concrete sill and our front porch is a concrete slab about 4 x6. There are a number of weatherproofing issues we need to address but the most urgent is the concrete sill under the door which has been crumbling for a while and presumably is the source of our leak.
Cut the rotten door sill into pieces using an oscillating tool or circular saw. Position the aluminum threshold against the outer edges of the door jambs so the holes in the threshold are 1 inch either way of the existing concrete anchors. Fill a chip in the concrete with caulking.
